RFS001 – Of Fathers and Filmmaking

September 1, 2015 By Ron Dawson

rfs001-banner

The premiere episode of Radio Film School is here! Have you ever noticed how father figures (or the lack thereof) have traditionally played a key role in the history of cinema?

It’s a common theme you see in the works of Spielberg, P.T. Anderson, Coppola, and even as far back as Capra. But I was fascinated to see how often the topic came up in my own conversations with filmmakers and artists.

In this official premiere episode, we look at the role that fathers play in cinema, and how being open to the vulnerability that comes with sharing those stories will elevate your craft.

Who You Heard

This episode featured interviews with…

  • Alex Vo – award-winning filmmaker in Silicon Valley
  • Jeff Cannata – co-host of the Slashfilmcast & We Have Concerns
  • Marshall Jones – spoken word poet. Author of “Spelling Father”
  • Patrick Moreau – co-founder of Stillmotion

Radio Film School: A Filmmaker’s Journey

This is the main series of Radio Film School. In season 1 we're exploring the theme: finding your voice and developing a signature style.

Radio Film School
Host Ron Dawson takes you on a journey to discover what it means to be a filmmaker. A show unlike any other for the passionate and aspiring filmmaker, Radio Film School is more of an audio documentary than a traditional podcast. Think of it as This American Life for filmmakers.
