Have you every seen a speech or presentation that made you want to get up and change the world? Maybe it was MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Maybe it was one of the many amazing presentations by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Ever wonder what makes those speeches so powerful? Well, wonder no more.
I stumbled upon this after reading Michael Hyatt’s blog today (my title is somewhat stolen from his. Like every good storyteller, I “borrow” from the best. 🙂 ) Anyway, below is a TEDx talk from the CEO of Duarte Design, Nancy Duarte. (TEDx are mini-versions of the now famous “world-changing” TED Conferences. Perhaps not coincidentally, MLK’s famous speech was 17 minutes, the approximate length of every TEDx speech.) Duarte is the company that creates the Keynote presentations for executives at Apple, Adobe and Microsoft to name a few.
This is an absolutely fascinating analysis of a successful presentation using a story structure analysis. I think it’s so cool that she starts with what is the most powerful device known to man. It’s the same thing I alluded to in this post. Watch this video. Then go change the world.
