Today Michael LaFrance tweeted that I check out his “amazing” wedding film trailer. Honestly, my first thought was this is just a form of Twitter spam (which normally bugs me). And I wasn’t too crazy about the lack of humility. But, I thought, what the heck. I’ll check it out. I’ll give this guy 30 seconds. If this thing doesn’t grab me in 30 seconds I’m going back to watching “Standard Operating Procedure” and I’ll probably block his tweets from now on. Well, congrats Michael. You grabbed me.
In a sea of “soft and pretty,” every so romantic, eclectic folksy soundtrack driven wedding trailers, this film feels more like a Tim Burton movie. It was truly the first HD-DSLR wedding trailer I’ve seen in months (probably a year) that didn’t look like every other HD DSLR wedding film I’ve seen.
This film is definitely NOT for everyone. Heck, I bet it’s not for MOST brides. BUT, the brides who do want something like this, I hazard to guess will pay good money for it since I bet you can’t find many wedding filmmakers who do stuff like this. (I hope you’re charging wel Mike). Well done.
What are YOU doing to set your work apart from the pack? Are you willing to take chances, go against the grain? If you do, and you have something you really think stands out, then feel free to spam me. 🙂
Check out Michael’s trailer below. [Warning: the “f-bomb” is dropped and the middle finger is used. Like I said, this ain’t for everyone.]

Totally psychotic… I absolutely f*cking loved it! But I have to say that if it weren’t for the awesome bride, her fashion sense & the amazing event styling, this would have been just another HDSLR wedding vidioh. This is the kind of gig most of us would kill to get. Awesome score Michael, you took it and pushed it to the limit!!
Ron Dawson says
You definitely have something there Evro. The bride’s look, combined with the black and white, was what first kept me glued. Worked really well with the backwards cinematography.

are you saying I am starting a movement? lol via lafrance revolution!

I am the Eccentric Bride in this One of a kind, Amazing, Myseriously Artistic, Darkly Sensual, Breathtaking Trailer.
When I set out to hunt down the perfect Videographer I thought I was doomed! I knee what I wanted and it was “NOT Your Typical Video!”
My long hunt ended when I opened the door to my home and there stood “LaFrance Darling!” I pushed his buttons a bit (or so I tried) to see if he would budge off the delightful personality he so enthusiasticaly shared as he made his presentation. I stopped LaFrance and said ” Michael, I don’t want this type of video. I want off the wall Grungy, romantic yet borderlining on the edge of extreme sensuality! Can you do this?”
The only word he said with great excitement was…. “Absolutely!” I then hired LaFrance On The Spot With the it most faith. As a woman who walks to my own beat instead of following the flock of humans I requested a meeting with LaFrance to discuss my vision and promised not to get in the way of his amazing talent. While filming our wedding Michael and his team stayed on the bride (me) and groom to assure each shot was perfection. With Three cameras on us all night I felt amazing! As a person in the film indrustry I will too be outing put my version of my wedding video with the Ok from LaFrance! I look forward to working with Michael LaFrance and introducing Brides to a new way of experiencing their wedding after the wedding.
Honorably Yours,
Rebekah Adalyne Soze

Thanks for sharing your comment Rebekah. It was a pleasure to watch your mysteriously artistic and other-worldly wedding.

Ron Hello dear! I simply love your words. I enjoy reading your reviews, thoughts and so on. As I said before working with LaFrance was spectacular. Every vendor was amazingly flawless except the photographer. Wont get into that!! I have been in the film industry for over 15years and I can say it is my feeling that LaFrance WILL continue on an upward journey with his videos! I’ve worked with many videographers from various walks of life but this is my first wedding videographer I had the pleasure of hiring. LaFrance has a unique way of filming that captured a part of me that I rarely get a chance to see. He listened to what I wanted…. and I made very clear what I did want….. Something EXOTIC DARK AND PASSIONATE with a twist of dark art. Our wedding planner was also the best the most intricate, the most detailed, the most caring, kind, and understanding wedding planner that we had interviewed. Hiring Brooke Craig was not a mistake. As a matter of fact I believe she is the one who saved my wedding from a complete disaster. And she did it all without blinking…. without frowning… without complaining. The vendors at my wedding helped me to see feel and realize just how important each vendors role actually was. As well as changed my life from a director in California to a soon to be Couture One Of a Kind dress shop owner here in Florida. I thank all involved as well as those people who blog about my wedding vendors

My pleasure Michael. Keep up the great work. And don’t be surprised if you start seeing more and more “reverse action” wedding clips. 🙂

HOLY “bleep” this was crazy in every good sense of the word! I loved reading the brides response as well. I have to say, I do agree with Evro. If it wasn’t for this outrageous (and I sincerely mean that in a GOOD way) bride, her vision, their day, the details, and the awesome editing… it may have been another DSLR wedding with killer details, awesome shots, etc… I think the editing was unique but that ties into the bride herself. The backwards stuff in the beginning – sweet, but again possibly specific to this bride. Would the same editing techniques fly with your “standard” couple?
With that said, I often wonder if people like myself, who are hesitant to fully join the DSLR bandwagon are going to get trampled on for not keeping up with the times, or is our work going to stand out even MORE because it now looks so different. I blend 5D and Canon XHA1 footage in most of my recent films, and I know they aren’t as visually “sexy” but people keep telling me they look different… and i’m like “yeah, i’m old school! shooting HD to miniDV!” Is shooting to any form of “tape” going to be the new “8mm/16mm”? Has everything shifted up a generation?

Any bride that tells people to f*ck off on camera, is a video worth watching.
Great job Michael, it’s refreshing to see more people like this out there. What works so well with this film is that you have an AUTHENTICALLY eclectic couple… not the anthro-holly hobby indie folk types, which no disrespect, I love me some farm pie weddings, but being able to create dark ironic films like this are special and thank god for brides like this one.
Michael I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Ron Dawson says
I had a feeling you’d like that K*.
Congrats Michael, you got the thumbs up from the one and only Kristen* of Bliss. That’s worth three blog posts. 🙂
