Style & Story Lessons from Pixar & South Park [SE08]

December 29, 2015 By Ron Dawson

In today’s Short Ends special, we look at two diametrically opposed animation studios which both offer excellent lessons about the power of style and story.

Since 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story, I thought it would be fun to do a special about animation. Actually, the truth is, one of my conversations with frequent show guest JD Cochran got off on a 45-minute tangent about South Park…so I used it as a basis for an episode. I also talk with Slashfilmcast co-host Jeff Cannata and wedding filmmaking master and USC film grad Kevin Shahinian about why Pixar is arguably the most successful studio in Hollywood.
