Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs that are free to use in your productions. You could do this work yourself, but it takes a lot of time. Since we do it anyway as we look for CC music for Radio Film School, we share our favorite discoveries with you. Enjoy!
This Week’s Picks
For this week, my mixtape is all about the serenity and trying to find the peace in life. It’s about taking that moment and reveling in it, whether it’s about soaking in all the success you’ve had recently or wallowing in the defeats, trying to figure out what went wrong. The mix is about hitting pause on life and taking in what’s around and what is to come down the road.
I instantly fell involve with the album cover, which drew me in to listen to more of the music by MADS. Its ambience feel I thought felt completely in sync with the picture at the top of this blog post, the girl on the beach, looking out to the awesome power of the ocean but also to the overwhelming expanse that laid before. And that’s what we all come to at some point, facing that expanse, wondering if we are smart enough, strong enough, to overcome. Its up to each of us to look at the expanse and come away realizing that while there is awesome power there, it doesn’t necessarily mean its going to crush us. Far from it. It will force us to stand against the waves. It will make us stronger.
I chose this song because of the fact that this plays to remembering the successes in life during those periods of reflection. It starts off like its going to be more mellow, but then it bumps up to some heavier electric guitar. Gives off a lot of power and while its got a lot of fast beats to it, its not a regular rock’n’roll song. It still has some thought behind it, making it a great song to listen to as you refocus yourself.
I think this is a great song to listen to when you are trying to put your thoughts together (the runnting time says over 22 minutes, but it’s actually only 4 minutes). It has some great beats to it and while it changes speed and intensity several times, none of the changes are overwhelming. Its a great song to have in the background or playing on your headphones while you are out for a walk.
When we think about things too long, we all face the possibility of getting loss in the abyss, the despair. This song brings a lightness to those moments of long reflection, trying to release some of the negative energy that might be surrounding you. What’s the old saying, Everything seems darkest right before the dawn? I think truer words have never been spoken and it always needs to be remembered.
No mixtape of mine could be complete without a song from Mr. Zabriskie himself. So I have included this song and I feel that the title encapsulates everything I started out saying about this mixtape. There will definitely be wins and losses in each of our lives and sometimes it might seem like the whole world is actually trying to keep you from succeeding. Bu in reality, everyone is facing a problem or a loss. Everyone is trying to get back up. Looking at the setback and realizing how you got there is ok, never fall into it. Failure is learning and that means you got to go back out there and try again.
