Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs to help jumpstart your inspiration. In memory of the passing of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey, this week’s picks are reminiscent of Frey’s guitar and sound.
Great Guitar Picks (no pun intended)
Glenn Frey, the co-founder, lead guitarist and one of the lead singers of legendary rock band the Eagles, passed away January 18 at the age of 67. For over four decades he contributed to some of the most iconic songs in rock and roll: “Lyin’ Eyes,”, “Take it Easy,” “Desperado”, “One of These Nights,” “The Heat is On,” “You Belong to the City,” and of course, “Hotel California”, to name a few. He will be missed by fans worldwide.
I chose songs this week that have a heavy guitar accompaniment. Enjoy!
“Fly Out” by The Red Thread (CC BY-NC). NON-COMMERCIAL USE. The opening of this has a “Hotel California” feel. I would not be surprised at all if it was directly inspired by it. Listen to when the percussions and lyrics come in, then compare it to when percussion and lyrics come in for “Hotel CA.” There’s also a touch of surf-rock twang. Combined with lyrics, could be a good addition to an indie short film.
“Solo Acoustic Guitar” by Divenere (CC BY). A calming guitar solo. It’s repetitive, so would make for a great sound bed for a video with lots of dialog or voice over.
“Green Lights” by Jahzzar (CC BY-SA). Have a some horns that give it a slight late 70s vibe. Then some synth kicks in which has an early 80s feel. Could go either way.
“Joke” by Jahzzar (CC BY-SA). This one sounds like a guitar duel to some extent. Reminded me of the guitar riffing solo on “Hotel California”.
“The Lurker” by Steve Gunn (CC BY-NC-ND)- NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. This is a long one.
In memory of Glenn Frey…
