Saturday Song Selection – Dance Mix Vol 1

August 27, 2016 By Chris Huslage

This week’s songs are the ones that make you want to get out of your chair and dance. From electronic vibes at the club to the simpler dance melodies, this mixtape has got it all.

This Week’s Picks

This week’s mixtape is all about the dance. The dance of love, the dance of moves, the dance you like to jive to. (Jive…that’s a word right???) I wanted to capture music that basically got you wanting to get up out of your chair and move. You feel the vibrations and just need to move those hips!

The Royal Vagabond by Jockers Dance Orchestra (CC-Public Domain)

Who doesn’t love that old school phonograph sound? To be honest, I really enjoy listening to the sound of the song more than the actual song. I believe it is a digital recording of an actual song from an older record but it has such depth to it despite it being a nice, jaunty tune. It really takes you back to an old, historic time in your mind, where you could see a couple dancing in their homes while listening to their record players, just escaping their daily lives for a few minutes while the song was playing.

Dance of the Stargazer by US Army Blues (CC-Public Domain)

Sticking with the older theme, this song from the US Army Blues band paints a great picture of the 1910-1920’s where all the young couples would rush out to the club (you know, like they do) and do some dancing. Of course, then it was more swing dancing and slow dancing than what it is today….I don’t know what it is today 😉 But it’s great for the big band sound that you might want to incorporate into your film or your personal soundtrack. Highly recommend listening to all the other songs on their album.

Cool Reggae Party by Juanitos (CC-BY-SA)

Time to switch it up! I wanted something with a bit of al lively tune and I thought a bit of reggae would do it. To me, it doesn’t sound totally like a Reggae song (actually, if you listen to some of Juanitos ‘ other stuff, it has a bit of that same Hispanic or flair) but it is got a cool sound to it. So totally upbeat that if you don’t want to get up and do a little dancing in the room there might be something wrong with you (It’s ok, get up from your chair and do a little dance, no one’s watching 🙂 )

Miri’s Magic Dance by Kevin MacLeod (CC-BY)

As the title of the album suggests, I wanted to throw in a little oddity. I chose this song because of the great gypsy, old country flavor that it brings. You can see a scene from a dark alley or a foggy forest and your character having to walk towards a building where they shouldn’t be going only to meet a gypsy woman. Will she curse them or not?? You decide with the next scene! (not the next song though….you’ll see why….)

Sprite by Michett (CC-BY)

So I figured that I had to include some modern dance music so I have included this great song by Michett. It has the club vibe down to a T and makes you want to crank up your speakers to full blast. I recommend doing that at work and everyone will thank you. It might even turn into a cool work party!! Don’t forget to bring the glowsticks for this rager!
