Saturday Song Selection – Bowie Inspired

January 16, 2016 By Ron Dawson

Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs to help jumpstart your inspiration. In memory of the passing of rock legend David Bowie, this week’s picks have an alt-rock, synth pop or punk theme.

Singer-Songwriter Picks

Rock legend David Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016 at the age of 69, due to cancer. From his days playing the bisexual space alien rock star Ziggy Stardust, to his 80s pop hits like “Let’s Dance” and “China Girl”, to his classic cinematic performances in such movies as “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, “Labyrinth” and “The Prestige”, Bowie was an artistic icon in both music and cinema. His talent, influence and vision will be missed.

I chose songs this week that have a alt-rock, pop-punk or synth feel. Songs that harken back to the 80s and 90s era Bowie. Enjoy!

“Nu Dead Pretty” by Mach Fox (CC BY-NC-ND)- NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. Sounds like it coulda come right out of the mouth of Ziggy Stardust himself.

“Monochromatic Butterfly” by Divenere (CC BY-NC-ND) – NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. C’mon, you know this sounds like it was plucked right out of an 80s punk/pop band. Don’t it?

“Whisper in My Mind” by Man Bites Dog (CC BY-SA). Very pop/punkish. I could see this being the song for a late 80 early 90 rom-com dating montage. 🙂

“Quiet the Mind” by Tigerberry (CC BY-NC-ND) – NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. A post-punk/indie feel.

“What Can Never Be” by the tunnel (CC BY-SA). Just the right combination of guitar, drum and creepy lead singer to make Ziggy proud.
