Today my series on YouTube/Online filmmakers comes to a close with UK filmmaker Robin Schmidt (aka “El Skid“). Robin is an very talented, award-winning filmmaker who has a ton of experience with music videos and producing high quality commercial and broadcast work (although he still doesn’t think he’s good enough to enter into film festivals). He also has quite a bit of experience dealing with YouTube and playing the game. Today on the show we discuss how a whole lot of stuff. Does it make sense to go to film festivals (you may be surprised at his answer). The dynamics of the Vimeo and YouTube community. His take on the quality of work in the field right now. And why he refuses to call himself a Director of Photography. This is one of those rich conversations that just couldn’t stop. Over 75 minutes of inspiration and education. He also has a very funny answer to my signature question at the end of the interview. (We also learn the origin of the name “El Skid.” It’s not at all what I expected!)
