I think I’m going to call this “Andy Andrews Week.” As you recall from yesterday, last week I had the honor to record a keynote from Andy for a corporate client. I wanted to share with you another tidbit from his talk.
If you look around and find that you are doing what everyone else around you is doing, then you’re doing something wrong. If you look at the most successful people in any category, they are NOT doing what everyone else is doing. (I would personally add that I’ve noticed that when successful people start being copies, as they always will, they eventually change-up what they do. They always stay ahead of the game.) Andy gave a funny anecdote about why there are so many people with credit card debt. It’s because they look around and see everyone else in credit card debt. So when they look at their own miserable financial situation, they may feel terrible, but their okay with it because everyone else is feeling terrible also. (I couldn’t help buy think of Dave Ramsey’s saying, “Live like no one else, so that you can live like no one else.” In other words, don’t do what everyone else is doing with their money, then when you have financial freedom, you can live like most other people can’t.)
Successful people are not satisfied with average. They strive to stand out. To be different. To do what’s never been done.
Today’s blog post is short and sweet, but packs a punch. Are you average? What about you or your service sets you apart?
