The Canon/Vimeo Beyond the Still film contest was a groundbreaking experiment in group storytelling. One of the contestants from the first round of finalists was my guest for today, Kenny Mosher of Showdown Visuals. The film he submitted was “Alderwood” and for the longest time it was a favorite to win. Unfortunately, in the 11th hour, another film took the prize. But I was so impressed with the storytelling and cinematography of “Alderwood” I just had to bring the filmmaker on the show. Today Kenny shares how his German class got him into filmmaking. We also have a deep and poignant conversation about how we as artists make decisions regarding the work we take when a paying gig may go against our sensibilities. He tells us about the making of his Vimeo contest entry and he shares how he balances his faith with work. And of course, we get his profound answer to my “Inception” question: does the top fall?
