So you think videos on YouTube and Vimeo are the best way to learn how to become a filmmaker? Well, we plan to challenge all of that with Radio Film School: a collection of mini-shows (aka “classes”) designed to educate, inspire and entertain the aspiring or professional filmmaker.
The main class will be Cinemaverick: A Filmmaker’s Journey. This will be our headlining show, and it’s really more of an audio documentary. We like to describe it as This American Life meets Project Greenlight with a dash of The Slashfilmcast.
What does it mean to be a “filmmaker.” That title means different things to different people. Host Ron Dawson will take you on a journey that’s both personal and poignant as he explores the topic. He’ll share personal anecdotes from his own journey as a filmmaker. You’ll get access and insight into the projects he’s shooting with peeks at the pre-production, production and post-production process. Along the journey he’ll be joined by some of the most talented artists in the industry as he gets their insight into the craft of filmmaking, their approach to it, and their take on season 1’s topic.
In season 1 we’ll specifically be looking at “finding your voice and developing a signature style.” What does it mean to have a “signature style”? Is it born or manufactured? Or a little bit of both? Ron and his fellow journeymen will look at the films and careers of iconic filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock, the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, P.T. Anderson, Scorcese, Fincher, Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, and others who have made a name for themselves because of their unique vision and style.
This will be a narrative, documentary style story that will keep you riveted.
We plan to educate and entertain with other segments like:
- “War Stories” — Anecdotes from the frontlines of filmmaking.
- “How to be a Black Filmmaker in the 90s” — a comedic “history” segment.
- “My Earliest Movie Memory” — touching stories from filmmakers and laypeople about their earliest memories going to the cinema.
- And more.
