Saturday Song Selection – Stranger Tunes (Inspired by Stranger Things)

August 13, 2016 By Chris Huslage

Inspired by the Netflix original series, Stranger Things, this week’s creative commons song picks will quickly get you into the mood to watch this surprise of a horror/sci-fi show.

This Week’s Picks

I was scouring Free Music Archive to find the right mix of songs for this week’s mixtape when my brother suggested watching a new show that he had recently finished (he watched it in two days, in between working and eating). He said it was a great little show. My wife and I agreed and the moment the red letters came and the 80’s synthesizer came on, I knew we were in for an interesting treat. This show is a great one to watch, but I have to say, the music really took me by surprise. Set in the early 80’s, the show has that electronic/synthesizer vibe to it. And it worked. I mean that’s hard to admit but it worked great with the show, even in the dark and twisty scenes, the synthesizer was turning those normally upbeat tones into something evil, almost gritty. While I couldn’t find anything that matched it exactly, I did find this band that was able to deliver music that was very similar in essence. Listen to the whole album if you get a chance but I collected the five best songs and put them here for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!!

All these songs come courtesy of the band Airglow and all are available for use under the Creative Common license CC-BY.

  • Memory Bank
  • Blueshift
  • Far Apart
  • New Touch
  • System Shutdown

After listening to these tunes, hop on over and buy the real soundtrack; then head on over to Netflix to watch the series. Make sure you have plenty of popcorn, because I guarantee you’ll want to binge it. 🙂
